Use \s-2INQUIRE ARCHIVE STATE VALUE\s+2 to determine the current state of the archive file.
The state value may be either \fIarchive open\fP (\s-2AROP \s+2)
or \fIarchive closed\fP (\s-2ARCL\s+2).
